There are many summer season things to do in New Jersey. There are beaches up and down the cost of the Garden State. But if you are looking for a special destination that's different than most, then Long Beach Island is your destination! Shoreline Beaches stretch 18 miles north to south as you travel from one charming town to another, each with its own personality and experiences.
One very different thing you will notice that stands out for LBI is the fact there is no boardwalk lining the beaches as there are in towns like Point Pleasant or Seaside Heights. Instead, the beachfront is lined with homes and businesses. However, LBI does have a boardwalk with rides and shops just a block away from the beach. It's called Fantasy Island and it's located in Beach Haven.
The main boulevard which is the heart of the island runs north to south with different names depending on which town you are in. Named Bay Avenue in Beach Haven, Central Avenue and Broadway in Barnegat Light, and Long Beach Boulevard. This street connects all of the towns of LBI and is lined with great places to eat, shop or just grab a coffee!
People travel from many areas to visit LBI each summer and there are some destinations which are musts for anyone who arrives.
One of the biggest attractions is the Barnegat Lighthouse located at the most northern section of the Island in Barnegat Light Township.
All of the communities offer beach access and there is free street parking. No tolls here!
Eateries that are very popular include Shore Good Donuts in Ship Bottom and The Chicken Or The Egg in Beach Haven.
